Δρ. Μαρία Καρεκλά, PhD, Εγγεγραμμένη Κλινική Ψυχολόγος, Επίκουρη Καθηγήτρια Κλινικής Ψυχολογίας, Τμήμα Ψυχολογίας, Πανεπιστήμιο Κύπρου

Η Δρ. Μ. Καρεκλά είναι κάτοχος διδακτορικού στην Κλινική Ψυχολογία, από το University at Albany, the State University of New York με ειδικότητα στις Αγχώδεις Διαταραχές και στην Ψυχολογία της Υγείας. Ολοκλήρωσε της σπουδές και ειδίκευση της στο University of Mississippi Medical Center and Veteran Administration Hospital. Η έρευνά της επικεντρώνεται στη συσχέτιση αγχώδη διαταραχών και προβλημάτων υγείας, στην εξέταση ενδοατομικών διαφορών και άλλων παραγόντων στην αιτιολογία, συντήρηση, αξιολόγηση/διάγνωση και θεραπεία αγχωδών προβλημάτων. Ασχολείται με την χρήση ψυχοφυσιολογίας και νέων εναλλακτικών μεθόδων στην εξερεύνηση αυτών των παραγόντων. Επίσης ασχολείται με τη δημιουργία και αναπροσαρμογή θεραπευτικών παρεμβάσεων (π.χ. Γνωστικό-συμπεριφορικής θεραπείας και Θεραπείας Αποδοχής και Δέσμευσης) μετά από πειραματική εξέταση για σκοπούς αποτελεσματικότερης αλλαγής συμπεριφοράς. Ανάμεσα στις ερευνητικές της δραστηριότητες και δημοσιεύσεις συμπεριλαμβάνονται έργα με θέμα το διαβήτη, τις διατροφικές διαταραχές, το άσθμα, το κάπνισμα, τον καρκίνο και τους πονοκεφάλους. Οι ερευνητικές της δραστηριότητες έχουν χρηματοδοτηθεί από εθνικούς όσο και διεθνείς οργανισμούς. Πρόσφατα το πρόγραμμά της για πρόληψη και αντιμετώπιση του καπνίσματος σε εφήβους βραβεύτηκε με το European Drug Prevention Prize 2010 από το Pompidou Group και το Council of Europe.

Τίτλος: ACThealthy: Utilizing a contextual behavioral approach to improve functioning in patients and individuals struggling with health-related behaviors.

Abstract:

“ACT”, is derived from the word “ACTION” and simultaneously constitutes the initials of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, a contextual behavioral approach to therapy that aims to achieve psychological flexibility and improve functioning and valued living even in the presence of health-related difficulties. “Healthy” implies the importance of living a healthy lifestyle. This can also mean an inner lifestyle, by developing a flexible way of thinking and behaving. We have added the two words together to form “ACThealthy” and characterize our laboratory and the emphasis of the work it undertakes. This paper will present the basic tenets of the laboratory and examples from the research and clinical randomized trials (e.g., Algea for chronic pain, flexiquit for smoking cessation) we have recently conducted.

Dr. Nuno Ferreira, PhD, CPsychol, AFBPsS, Εγγεγραμμένος Κλινικός Ψυχολόγος, Αναπληρωτής Καθηγητής Κλινικής Ψυχολογίας Υγείας, Τμήμα Ψυχολογίας, Πανεπιστήμιο Λευκωσίας

Dr Ferreira is a Professor of Clinical Health Psychology at the University of Nicosia. He holds a Licenciature in Clinical Psychology from ISPA, Portugal, and a PhD in Clinical and Health Psychology from the University of Edinburgh. After the completion of his PhD, he worked at the University of Edinburgh as a Lecturer and Senior Teaching Fellow of post-graduate courses (MSc and Doctoral) offered by the Department of Clinical and Health Psychology. Between 2006 and 2007 he also worked in several services across Edinburgh in clinical capacities. He has been involved in several research projects and has published extensively in the areas of General Mental Health Disorders and Psychological Adjustment to Chronic Illness.

Dr Ferreira is interested in the use and development of Third Wave Cognitive Behavioural approaches and in particular, the applications of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) for long-term or chronic health conditions (e.g. Chronic Pain, Diabetes, Asthma). More specifically, he is interested in developing intervention models based on ACT across all populations and age groups (but especially in pediatric setting). He is also interested in Contextual Psychology basic research, such as the study of the impact of concepts like values, acceptance/ avoidance, cognitive fusion and mindfulness on psychosocial and physical outcomes. Furthermore, he is also interested in research in the areas of emotion, emotion regulation, alexithymia, PTSD, eating disorders, burnout and e-learning.

Title: «Third-Wave CBT approaches to Gastrointestinal (GI) Conditions – An emerging field»

Abstract:

Research and practice within Health Psychology as seen an exponential rise in the utility of Third-Wave CBT approaches (e.g. ACT, SCT, MBCT) in the last 2 decades. This has been particularly useful in the area of Chronic Pain. However, several common presentations for health psychology practitioners have not had such attention. In this talk, some brief clinical examples will be used to illustrate the utility of a functional contextual diagnosis model and intervention in the field of GI conditions (e.g. IBS, IBD). A review of the current evidence and how it can be integrated with current models of care will be discussed.

Ο Νίκος Μίτλεττον, BSc Στατιστική και Επιχειρησιακή Έρευνα (UCL, 1997), MSc Ανάλυση Αποφάσεων σε θέματα Υγείας (LSE και LSHTM, 1998) και PhD Επιδημιολογία (Τμήμα Κοινωνικής Ιατρικής, University of Bristol, 2004) εκλέγηκε Επίκουρος Καθηγητής Μεθοδολογίας Έρευνας στις Επιστήμες Υγείας και Βιοστατιστικής στο Τμήμα Νοσηλευτικής, Σχολή Επιστημών Υγείας το Μάρτιο 2009. Το Νοέμβριο 2014 ανελίχθηκε στη βαθμίδα του Αναπληρωτή Καθηγητή. Εκτελεί καθήκοντα Προέδρου Τμήματος και Συντονιστή του Διδακτορικού προγράμματος. Υπηρέτησε ως εκπρόσωπος της Σχολής Επιστημών Υγείας στη Σύγκλητο και είναι μέλος της Συγκλητικής Επιτροπής Μεταπτυχιακών Σπουδών. Εργάστηκε στο Τμήμα Κοινωνικής Ιατρικής, του Πανεπιστήμιου του Bristol (Λέκτορας Ιατρικής Στατιστικής, 2004-2005)) στη Σχολή Δημόσιας Υγείας του Πανεπιστημίου του Χάρβαρντ (μεταδιδακτορικός ερευνητικός συνεργάτης, 2006-2008) και στο Διεθνές Ινστιτούτο Περιβαλλοντικής και Δημόσιας Υγείας (επισκέπτης Λέκτορας 2006-2008).

Τα ερευνητικά του ενδιαφέροντα εμπίπτουν στο πεδίο της επιδημιολογίας χρόνιων νοσημάτων, επιδημιολογία ψυχικής υγείας και γεωγραφικής επιδημιολογίας, ιδίως όσον αφορά σε πληθυσμιακές ανισότητες υγείας και περιβαλλοντικών προσδιοριστών της υγείας, τόσο σε σχέση με το κοινωνικό όσο και το φυσικό περιβάλλον. Ήταν επικεφαλής Επιδημιολόγος/Βιοστατιστικός στις μεγαλύτερες σε κλίμακα επιδημιολογικές μελέτες που έχουν διεξαχθεί στην Κύπρο για το παιδικό άσθμα και τις αλλεργίες (επιστημονικός υπεύθυνος Δρ Π. Γιάλλουρος, Διεθνές Ινστιτούτο Περιβαλλοντικής και Δημόσιας Υγείας), ενώ τα τελευταία 5 χρόνια συμμετείχε σε σειρά ερευνητικών προγραμμάτων με εξωτερική χρηματοδότηση (FP7, ΙΠΕ, Yπουργείο Υγείας), όπως και σε ένα μεγάλο αριθμό μεταπτυχιακών και διδακτορικών διατριβών. Είναι επιστημονικός υπεύθυνος του έργου «BrEaST start in life», το οποίο χρηματοδοτείται από το ΕΕΑ NGO Grants (2014-2015) – μια διαχρονική μελέτη στα μαιευτήρια της Κύπρου με στόχο την πρώτη εκτίμηση δεικτών θηλασμού (ποσοστό έναρξης, αποκλειστικότητας, και διάρκεια μέχρι τον 6ο μήνα ζωής του παιδιού) όπως και τη διερεύνηση προσδιοριστικών παραγόντων (πρακτικές των μαιευτήρων, αυτοπεποίθηση για θηλασμό, στήριξη από το κοινωνικό και εργασιακό περιβάλλον).

Το ερευνητικό του έργο έχει σημαντική διεθνή αναγνώριση, και ειδικότερα σε σχέση με τις δυνητικές αρνητικές επιπτώσεις της αερομεταφερόμενης σκόνης από τη Σαχάρα στην καρδιοαναπνευστική υγεία, ευρήματα τα οποία έχουν έκτοτε επιβεβαιωθεί σε διάφορες μελέτες σε ευρωπαϊκό επίπεδο. Επί του παρόντος, η ερευνητική του ομάδα επικεντρώνεται στην ανάπτυξη σύνθετων δεικτών κοινωνικο-οικονομικού μειονεκτήματος σε επίπεδο κοινοτήτων στην Κύπρο και στη διερεύνηση της κοινωνικής διαβάθμισης των γεωγραφικών ανισοτήτων στην υγεία. Έχει επιβλέψει τη διδακτορική διατριβή της Δρος Ουρανίας Κολοκοτρόνη (2015) και της Δρος Χριστιάνας Νικολάου (2015), είναι κύριος επιβλέποντας δυο διδακτορικών φοιτητών ενώ είναι μέλος σε πολλές συμβουλευτικές επιτροπές μεταπτυχιακής και διδακτορικής διατριβής τόσο στο ΤΕΠΑΚ όσο και σε άλλα εκπαιδευτικά ιδρύματα.

Έχει πλούσιο συγγραφικό έργο σε επιστημονικά περιοδικά με υψηλή απήχηση, το οποίο συγκεντρώνει άνω των 1300 ετεροαναφορών στη βιβλιογραφία (h-index = 19, i10-index = 23), και ανακοινώσεις σε τοπικά και διεθνή συνέδρια (IEA, ERS, EuroEpi, EUPHA). Το διδακτικό το έργο καλύπτει ένα ευρύ φάσμα θεμάτων, όπως Μεθοδολογία της Έρευνας στις Επιστήμες Υγείας, Επιδημιολογία, Βιοστατιστική, Τεκμηριωμένη Κλινική Πρακτική, Συστηματική Ανασκόπηση και Μετανάλυση, Τεχνικές Συγγραφής και Παρουσίασης Επιστημονικής Εργασίας, σε προπτυχιακό, μεταπτυχιακό και διδακτορικό επίπεδο.

Το Σεπτέμβριο του 2015 διορίστηκε ως Αντιπρόσωπος της Κυβέρνησης στο Διοικητικό Συμβούλιο του Οργανισμού Ασφάλισης Υγείας.

Δρ. Άγγελος Κασσιανός, PhD, Επισκέπτης Λέκτορας Τμήμα Ψυχολογίας και Κοινωνικής Εργασίας, Πανεπιστήμιο Frederick/ Συνεργάτης Ερευνητής, Department of Applied Health Research, University College London, UK

Dr. Angelos Kassianos was awarded his PhD in Health Psychology from the University of Surrey in 2014 and is working in the UK since then. He has managed research projects and taught at Imperial College London, the University of Cambridge, the Harvard Medical School, the University of Cyprus and Cyprus University of Technology and the University of Turin among others. He is currently working at the University College London (UCL), Department of Applied Health Research and teaching research methods. He is using health behaviour change evidence and theories to contribute towards cancer prevention, early diagnosis and palliative care. A secondary interest is medical education in relation to overcoming cognitive biases that lead to diagnostic delays. Also, an overarching theme of his research is using new technologies to optimize behaviour change and collect patient-reported outcomes.  He is currently the European Health Psychology Society (EHPS) National Delegate (ND) of Cyprus.

Title: “The impact of Specialized Palliative Care on cancer patients’ Health-Related Quality of Life: A systematic review and meta-analysis” Authors: Angelos P. Kassianos*, Myria Ioannou**, Marianna Koutsantoni**, Haris Charalambous*** (* University College London, Department of Applied Health Research, London, UK; ** University of Cyprus, Department of Psychology, Nicosia, Cyprus; *** Bank of Cyprus Oncology Centre, Nicosia, Cyprus)

Absract:

Specialized Palliative Care (SPC) is currently underutilized or provided late in cancer care. The aim of this systematic review and meta-analysis is to critically evaluate the impact of SPC on patients’ Health-Related Quality of Life (HRQoL). Five databases were searched through June 2016. Randomized Controlled Trials (RCTs) and prospective studies using a pre- and post- assessment of HRQoL were included. The PRISMA reporting statement was followed. Criteria from available checklists were used to evaluate the studies’ quality. A meta-analysis followed using random-effect models separately for RCTs and non-RCTs. Eleven studies including five RCTs and including 2939 cancer patients published between 2001 and 2014 were identified. There was improved HRQoL in patients with cancer following SPC especially in symptoms like pain, nausea and fatigue as well as improvement of physical and psychological functioning. Less or no improvements were observed in social and spiritual domains. The meta-analysis identified favorable impact in studies including inpatients or using specialized SPC team whereas patients’ age and treatment duration did not moderate the impact of SPC. The quality of included studies was moderate with an average summative quality score of 65.0% for RCTs and 50.0% for non-RCTs. Methodological shortcomings include high attrition rates, low precision and power and poor reporting of control procedures. The methodological problems and publication bias call for higher-quality studies to be designed, funded and published. However, there is a clear message that SPC is multi-disciplinary and aims at palliation of symptoms and burden in line with current recommendations.

Δρ. Στυλιανή Σπυρίδη, MD, MSc, PhD, Ψυχίατρος, International Associate of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (UK), Μέλος Δ.Σ. Ψυχιατρικής Εταιρείας Κύπρου

Η Δρ Σπυρίδη αποφοίτησε από την Ιατρική Σχολή του Πανεπιστημίου Αθηνών στην Ελλάδα το 2000 και συνέχισε τις μεταπτυχιακές της σπουδές αποκτώντας μεταπτυχιακό τίτλο σπουδών (Master’s Degree) στην Ιατρική Ερευνητική Τεχνολογία και Διδακτορική Διατριβή στην Ψυχιατρική επικεντρωμένη στη γνωσιακή έκπτωση στην ψύχωση. Η Δρ Σπυρίδη επίσης έχει εκπαιδευτεί στη Βραχεία Ψυχαναλυτική Ψυχοθεραπεία και τη Γνωσιακή Συμπεριφορική Ψυχοθεραπεία. Ολοκλήρωσε την ειδίκευσή της στην Ψυχιατρική το 2008 και έκτοτε εργάστηκε σε διάφορα τμήματα ψυχικής υγείας στην Αγγλία, την Ελλάδα και την Κύπρο. Από το 2016 εργάζεται ως Ψυχίατρος στον ιδιωτικό τομέα στην Κύπρο και την Αγγλία.

Η Δρ Σπυρίδη έχει αναμειχθεί ενεργά με κλινικό ερευνητικό έργο ως επιστημονική συνεργάτης στο τμήμα Ψυχιατρικής του Αριστοτελείου Πανεπιστημίου Θεσσαλονίκης στην Ελλάδα, σαν επίτιμος ψυχίατρος στο τμήμα Νευροεπιστημών του Πανεπιστημίου του Cambridge στην Αγγλία,  ως αξιολογήτρια και συγγραφέας στην επιστημονική βιβλιοθήκη Cochrane και επίσης συμβάλλοντας σε πολυάριθμα ερευνητικά προγράμματα του NIHR στα πλαίσια της εργασίας της στο NHS στην Αγγλία. Η ερευνητική της εργασία έχει παρουσιασθεί σε διεθνή ψυχιατρικά συνέδρια και δημοσιευθεί σε επιστημονικά περιοδικά.

Η Δρ Σπυρίδη έχει ιδιαίτερο κλινικό ενδιαφέρον στην αντιμετώπιση του άγχους και της κατάθλιψης σε άτομα παραγωγικής ηλικίας και υψηλής λειτουργικότητας. Επίσης τα ιδιαίτερα ενδιαφέροντά της περιλαμβάνουν τη διασύνδεση μεταξύ σωματικής και ψυχικής υγείας όπως επίσης και την πρώιμη παρέμβαση στην ψύχωση  συμπεριλαμβανομένης της Διπολικής Διαταραχής και της ψυχωσικής Kατάθλιψης.

Τίτλος: «Ο ρόλος του ψυχιάτρου στη Χρόνια Νεφρική Ανεπάρκεια.»

Abstract:

Mία από τις πιο δύσκολες ομάδες ασθενών με τις οποίες καλείται ο ψυχίατρος να εργαστεί, ειδικότερα στα πλαίσια της Συμβουλευτικής-Διασυνδετικής, είναι οι ασθενείς με νεφρική ανεπάρκεια, λόγω της πολυπλοκότητας και της πολυδιάστατης φύσης των προβλημάτων που αντιμετωπίζουν. Προτείνεται μία ολιστική θεώρηση, λαμβάνοντας υπόψη τους βιολογικούς, ψυχολογικούς και κοινωνικούς παράγοντες, που σχετίζονται με τη νόσο και με τα εξειδικευμένα θεραπευτικά προγράμματα. Γίνεται συζήτηση για τον τρόπο με τον οποίο οι παράγοντες αυτοί αλληλεπιδρούν μεταξύ τους και καθορίζουν όχι μόνο την πορεία αλλά και την ποιότητα ζωής των ασθενών και των οικογενειών τους. Τέλος, γίνεται μία σύντομη αναφορά στις ψυχοκοινωνικές και φαρμακευτικές παρεμβάσεις, που ενδείκνυνται σε αυτή την ομάδα των ασθενών για την αντιμετώπιση των ψυχικών και ψυχοκοινωνικών επιπτώσεων της νόσου.

Dr Prodromou has several publications in local and international journals, as well as conference presentations in the areas of her research interest.

Κα Μαρία Μαρκουλλή, Public Health Consultant – WHO Regional Office for Europe

Ms Maria Marcoulli is a registered psychologist and holds a MSc in Health Psychology from the University College London (UCL), UK, Department of Epidemiology and Public Health. She worked primarily within public health research (Nova Southeastern University – USA and UCL), covering a wide range of topics such as preventing and managing long-term conditions, and improving healthcare policy and practice.

While serving as a Public Health Services Officer at the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Cyprus, she joined WHO Regional Office for Europe (WHO/Europe) in 2014 as a Public Health consultant (Country Relations and Corporate Communications Unit) for the coordination, development and endorsement of a Country Cooperation Strategy (CCS) to guide WHO’s work in the Republic of Cyprus.

Her collaboration with WHO/Europe continued with the Division of Health Systems and Public Health, where she functioned as the Coordinator of the assessment of Essential Public Health Operations (EPHOs) in the Republic of Cyprus.

Since 2015, she has been supporting assessments of Public Health Operations in various WHO Member States (Republic of Slovenia, Republic of Kosovo, Kyrgyz Republic, Republic of Kazakhstan, Republic of Moldova). At the same time, she has been developing a comprehensive package of resources to support WHO Member States in leading and managing the EPHOs assessment process. She has also worked at several academic institutions as a visiting lecturer, for the preparation and delivery of training for MSc students based on EPHOs self-assessment.

Currently she works as a part-time Problem Based Learning (PBL) and Clinical Communication Skills tutor at the University of Nicosia Medical School.

Τίτλος: “Trends and common challenges faced collectively by selected Member States of the European Region in addressing various public health issues”

Abstract:

Through a process of extensive and iterative consultation, the WHO Regional Office for Europe devised 10 essential public health operations (EPHOs) that define the field of modern public health for the Member States in the WHO European Region.

The EPHOs self-assessment tool provides a series of criteria that national public health officials can use to evaluate the delivery of the EPHOs in their particular settings. It can be used to foster dialogue on the strengths, weaknesses and gaps in EPHOs; generate policy options or recommendations for public health reforms; and contribute to the development of public health policies.

Over the past 10 years, nearly two dozen Member States have carried out a self-assessment using the EPHOs tool. It has proven to be a useful vehicle for promoting a harmonized understanding of public health throughout the Region, both within and outside the health sector, and for renewing public health in line with the precepts of Health 2020 and the European Action Plan on Public Health Capacities and Services.

For many of the countries undertaking an EPHOs self-assessment, the resulting reports provide the only comprehensive documentation detailing the strengths and weaknesses of public health capacities and services. This presentation provides a closer look at the results of a cross-cutting analysis of nine country reports that were produced following the EPHOs self-assessments, in order to present the trends and common challenges faced collectively by Member States across the Region, as well as the main lessons emerging from Member States’ experiences using the tool.

Η συζήτηση στρογγυλής τραπέζης θα γίνει με την συμμετοχή εκπροσώπων από διάφορους φορείς και οργανισμούς που εκπροσωπούν επαγγελματίες υγείας και παραϊατρικά επαγγέλματα με θεματική την πολυθεματική προσέγγιση, τη διεπιστημονική συνεργασί, και την εφαρμογή τους στην Κύπρο. Η συζήτηση θα εστιαστεί στις αντιλήψεις που κυριαρχούν στα διάφορα επαγγέλματα μέσα από τη μέχρι τώρα εφαρμογή τέτοιων πρακτικών στην χώρα μας, τις προκλήσεις και τα πιθανά εμπόδια που αντιμετωπίζουν συνολικά οι επαγγελματίες υγείας, αλλά και το κάθε επάγγελμα ξεχωριστά. Κλείνοντας, η συζήτηση θα εστιαστεί στις μελλοντικές προοπτικές, στα περιθώρια για βελτίωση των υφιστάμενων πρακτικών.

Δρ. Βασίλης Βασιλείου, Εγγεγραμμένος Κλινικός Ψυχολόγος, Μέλος Συνδέσμου Ψυχολόγων Κύπρου

Ο Βασίλης Βασιλείου γεννήθηκε και μεγάλωσε στην Αθήνα. Το 2008, αποφοίτησε από το τμήμα Ψυχολογίας του Πανεπιστημίου Κρήτης και συνέχισε την εκπαίδευση του ως Ψυχολόγος στην Α΄ Ψυχιατρική Κλινική του Πανεπιστημίου Αθηνών στο Αιγινήτειο Νοσοκομείο. Μέρος της θητείας του στο Πολεμικό Ναυτικό το πέρασε στη Ψυχιατρική Κλινική του Ναυτικού Νοσοκομείου Αθηνών (ΝΝΑ) όπου έλαβε σημαντική εμπειρία στην αξιολόγηση ασθενών. Το 2010, αποφοίτησε από το πανεπιστήμιο της Ουαλλίας (University of Swansea Wales), με το μεταπτυχιακό στη Κλινική Ψυχολογίας (MS.c in Abnormal and Clinical Psychology). Στην Ουαλία δούλεψε στο ψυχολογικό τμήμα N.H.S.-local board (Central Clinic, Abertawe Bro Morgannwg University NHS Trust ) και έλαβε εκπαίδευση δίπλα σε εγγεγραμμένους Κλινικούς Ψυχολόγους. Συμμετείχε εκτενώς στο πρόγραμμα Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT, stress control & CCBT). Αποφοίτησε από το Τμήμα Ψηυχολογίας του Πανεπιστημίου Κύπρου με το διδακτορικό τίτλο στην Κλινική Ψυχολογία το 2016.

 

Παράλληλα, στα πλαίσια της μεταπτυχιακής του θέσης δούλεψε ερευνητικά θέματα της Θεραπείας Αποδοχής και Δέσμευσης (ACT) με την Dr Louise McHugh στο εργαστήριο » learning and behavior lab». Βρίσκεται σε συνεχή εκπαίδευση πάνω στη θεραπεία Αποδοχής και Δέσμευσης (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy-ACT) από τους εμπνευστές του μοντέλου, Steven Hayes, Ph.D, Kelly Wilson, Ph.D και Rush Harris, M.D. Εργάζεται στην ερευνητική ομάδα της Δρ. Μαρίας Καρεκλά στο εργαστήριο ACTHealthy. Είναι μεταπτυχιακός συνεργάτης του έργου «ΑΛΓΕΑ» ενώ αποτέλεσε έναν από τους βασικούς εμπνευστές της ανάπτυξη του προγράμματος. Έχει συμμετάσχει ως ομιλητής σε αρκετά συνέδρια στην Ελλάδα, τη Κύπρο και το εξωτερικό ενώ πρόσφατα η ιδέα του προγράμματος ΑΛΓΕΑ έλαβε χρηματικό έπαθλο από το Association for Contextual and Behavioral Science (ACBS) στο 11ο Παγκόσμιο συνέδριο του ACBS στο Σύδνεϋ της Αυστραλίας. Η τρέχουσα ερευνητική δραστηριότητα σχετίζεται με τη θεραπευτική αξιολόγηση του μοντέλου της Θεραπείας Αποδοχής και Δέσμευσης. Παράλληλα, ενδιαφέρεται για την ανάπτυξη και περαιτέρω διάχυση νέων θεραπευτικών μεθόδων με βάση το τρίτο κύμα γνωσιακο-συμπεριφορικών θεραπειών και των λειτουργικών μοντέλων περιβάλλοντος. Στόχος του είναι να αναπτύξει σταδιακά όλες εκείνες της δεξιότητες ενός Κλινικού Ψυχολόγου που ζει, εργάζεται και προσφέρει τόσο σε ένα ευρύ φάσμα κλινικών πληθυσμών, όσο και στην επαγγελματική κοινότητα, και αποσκοπεί στην βελτίωση της ψυχικής ευεξίας, την ευημερία των πολιτών και της κοινωνίας.

Koulla Erotokritou is a graduate social worker of Social Work Department, from Frederick University. Since 2012 is a graduate student at Frederick University in the subject «MA in Social Work and Social Administration» She has been working at the University Frederick since 2006. In the last 4 years she worked with the planning, organization, development, implementation and participation in European programs and research on mental illness, the elderly, immigrants-intercultural education, juvenile delinquency, interpersonal relationships, empowerment of vulnerable groups, diversity, communication, emotions, culture and social skills, self-awareness, and others. He has trained vulnerable groups (elderly, women, immigrants) to integrate or reintegrate into society, and acquiring social skills, networking those served by businesses to employment and their employment.

Dr. Lazaridou is Chief of Inpatient Care at the Bank of Cyprus Oncology Centre. She has taught junior internal medicine residents and 5th and 6th year medical students at the University of Crete Medical School. She is interested in integrating Palliative Care into the care of her patients as early as possible in their journeys through their illness. She strongly believes that further training in palliative care is essential to mentoring junior doctors and nurses, as well as other staff members. Her goal is to organize the first palliative care multidisciplinary team at the Bank of Cyprus Oncology Center and serve the growing population of elderly in Cyprus, as well as relieve suffering from other chronic illness.

Antonis Zacharopoulos acquired his Bachelor Degree in Physiotherapy (1997) at the Athens Technological and Education Institute and his Masters Degree in Sports Physiotherapy (2002) at the University College of London. His Master’s Thesis focused on the effects of Myofascial Manipulation Techniques on the surface Electromyography (SEMG) signal of the Lumbar Paraspinal muscles in non-specific chronic Low Back Pain sufferers. His research interest focuses on Myofascial Pain Syndromes and its relation to movement impairments and compromised Functional capacity and in the area of Sports Injuries Prediction and Prevention. He has extensive clinical experience and expertise in the field of Musculoskeletal and Sports Physiotherapy comprised of five years of practicing physiotherapy in the United Kingdom in many NHS teaching Hospitals specialized in the field of Orthopaedic & Musculoskeletal disorders and Sports Injuries. In 2004, he moved to Cyprus where he established his private practice offering Physiotherapy services as a private Physiotherapy practitioner at a Clinical Specialist level. He has attended and presented numerous seminars and conferences in relation to clinical practice and contemporary techniques in Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy & Manual Therapy. He has been involved in professional soccer being the Head Physiotherapist of APOEL FC in 2007-2008. κα Σούζη Μακρή, Αντιπρόεδρος Αντιρευματικού Συνδέσμου Κύπρου, Πρόεδρος ENFA – Ευρωπαϊκό Δίκτυο για Οργανισμούς Ασθενών με Ινομυαλγία

Η Σούζη Μακρή γεννήθηκε στη Πάφο. Στην ηλικία των έξη ετών μετακόμισε στη Λεμεσό μαζί με την οικογένειά της. Φοίτησε στο Ε΄ Γυμνάσιο Λεμεσού και μετά την αποφοίτησή της μετέβηκε στο Ηνωμένο Βασίλειο όπου σπούδασε Οικονομικά.

Μετά τη διάγνωση Ρευματοπάθειας, παρακολούθησε εξ αποστάσεως για δύο χρόνια στο Ανοιχτό Πανεπιστήμιο του Ηνωμένου Βασιλείου, μαθήματα ψυχολογίας και παράλληλα άρχισε να εργάζεται σαν εθελόντρια στον Αντιρευματικό Σύνδεσμο Κύπρου. Την επόμενη χρονιά εξελέγη Εκτελεστική γραμματέας της Κεντρικής Επιτροπής. Σήμερα κατέχει τη θέση της Αντιπροέδρου του ΑΣΚ.

Την περίοδο 2011-2017, η Σούζη Μακρή διετέλεσε Πρόεδρος του Μη κερδοσκοπικού, μη κυβερνητικού Οργανισμού AGORA (πλατφόρμα για οργανισμούς ασθενών με ρευματοπάθειες Νοτίου Ευρώπης). Από το 2015 είναι πρόεδρος του επίσης Μη Κερδοσκοπικού Οργανισμού ENFA (Ευρωπαϊκό Δίκτυο για Οργανισμούς ασθενών με Ινομυαλγία).

Κατά τη διάρκεια της εθελοντικής της δράσης με τον ΑΣΚ και την AGORA, η Σούζη Μακρή έχει εκπαιδευτεί στην ενδυνάμωση και επιμόρφωση των ασθενών όσον αφορά στην αυτοδιαχείριση των χρόνιων ασθενειών. Επίσης έχει εκπαιδευτεί σαν συνεργάτης ασθενής στην έρευνα και ανάπτυξη των φαρμάκων.

Nicos Middleton, BSc Statistics and Operational Research (UCL, 1997), MSc Health Care Decision Analysis (LSE and LSHTM, 1998) and PhD Epidemiology (University of Bristol, 2004) joined the Department of Nursing, School of Health Sciences, Cyprus University of Technology in 2009 as Assistant Professor in Health Sciences Research Methodology and Biostatistics. Currently, he is Associate Professor (since Nov 2014), Head of Department and Director of Doctoral programme. He has served as member of the CUT Senate for two years and he is a member of the University Committee for Postgraduate Studies. Previous affiliations include the Department of Social Medicine, University of Bristol (Lecturer in Medical Statistics, 2004-2005), the Harvard School of Public Health (postdoctoral research fellow, 2006-2008) and the Cyprus International Institute for Environmental and Public Health (visiting Lecturer, 2006-2008).

His research interests fall within the sphere of chronic disease (e.g. asthma, cancer), mental health and geographical epidemiology, particularly with respect to population health inequalities and the social and physical environmental determinants of health. Currently, he is the scientific coordinator of the “BrEaST start in life” project (funded by EEA NGO Grants), a longitudinal study of mothers who gave birth in Cypriot maternity clinics in order to provide first-time indicators (initiation, exclusivity and duration) and determinants of breastfeeding (maternity clinic practices, self-efficacy, support from the social and work environment). Previously, he has been the Lead Statistician/ Epidemiologist in the largest epidemiological studies performed so far in Cyprus on childhood asthma and respiratory health (Dr P. Yiallouros, PI, Cyprus International Institute for Environmental and Public Health) while in the last 5 years he has been involved in a number of other research projects (funded by FP7, Cyprus RPF, MoH, and CUT internal funds).

His research work has attracted considerable international attention, and more recently with regards to the potential adverse effects of long-range transport of Saharan dust on cardio-respiratory health, which several studies across Southern Europe have since replicated. Currently, his research team are aiming to develop a small-area composite index of socio-economic deprivation to document the social gradient in health across Cypriot communities. He was the main PhD advisor of Dr Ourania Kolokotroni (title awarded 2015) and Dr Christiana Nicolaou (title awarded 2015). Currently, he is supervising two more PhD candidates and is a member of several more PhD and MSc advising committees in CUT and elsewhere.

Now, featuring more than 1300 citations in the literature (h-index=19, i10-index=23), work he authored/co-authored have been published in high impact journals, and disseminated widely at local and international conferences (IEA, ERS, EuroEpi, EUPHA). His teaching experience covers a broad range of subjects, including Health Research Methodology, Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Evidence-based practice, Systematic reviews and meta-analysis, Scientific writing and presentation skills, at undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral level.

In September 2015 he was appointed as Government Representative in the Board of Directors of the Health Insurance Organization.

 

Dr Styliani Spyridi MD, MSc, PhD , International Associate of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (UK)

Dr Spyridi is a Consultant Psychiatrist with over than 10 years proven experience in Adult Psychiatry, working across a range of Mental Health Conditions including Early Psychosis, Anxiety and Mood related disorders.

Dr Spyridi qualified as a medical doctor in 2000 from Athens Medical School in Greece and continued her postgraduate studies obtaining a master’s degree in Medical Research Technology and a doctorate in Psychiatry concentrated on cognitive impairment in psychosis. Dr Spyridi also received training on Brief Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy and CBT. She completed her full training in Psychiatry in 2008 and has worked in several NHS settings in the UK, Greece and Cyprus since then. In 2016 she left the NHS to work as a private Consultant  in Cyprus and the UK.

Dr Spyridi has been actively involved with clinical research as Research Fellow at the Psychiatry Department, University of Thessaloniki, Greece, as Honorary Psychiatrist at the Neurosciences Department, Cambridge University, UK, as peer reviewer and author at the Cochrane Library and also contributing to a number of NIHR research projects as part of her NHS role. Her research work has been presented in international psychiatric conferences and published in scientific journals.

Dr Spyridi has special interest in the management of anxiety and depression in working age and highly functioning population. Her special interests are also the interface between physical and mental health as well as the early intervention in psychosis including Bipolar Disorder and psychotic Depression.

Title: The psychiatrist’s role in chronic renal failure.

Abstract in English: One of the most challenging patient groups that the psychiatrist of consultation-liaison psychiatry is called to work with, are the patients with Renal Failure, since this disease is related to complicated and multidimensional physical and psychosocial problems. The holistic approach is adopted, considering the biological, psychological and psychosocial factors related to the disease and to specific therapeutical programs as well. The interaction of these factors and their impact not only on the course of the disease, but also on the quality of life are discussed. Finally, a brief report on psychosocial and pharmaceutical interventions indicated for this group of patients is made, especially concerning the psychological and psychosocial consequences of renal failure.

Αποφοίτησε με τίτλο Bachelor of Science Honours (Psychology) το 2001 από το Royal Holloway, University of London. Τις μεταπτυχιακές της σπουδές τις ολοκλήρωσε στο Spalding University (USA), με τον τίτλο Master of Arts (Clinical Psychology) το 2004 και τον τίτλο Doctor of Psychology (Psy.D. – Clinical Psychology) το 2008. Ολοκλήρωσε το pre-doctoral internship μου στο Hutchings Psychiatric Center, New York State Office of Mental Health και στο Forensic Department του Madison County Mental Health Department. Επίσης, έχει δουλέψει ως ψυχολογική ψυχοθεραπεύτρια σε κοινοτικό κέντρο ψυχικής υγείας και σε εξειδικευμένο κέντρο θεραπείας σεξουαλικής κακοποίησης στις ΗΠΑ. Είναι εγγεγραμμένη ειδική ψυχολόγος στο Μητρώο Ειδικών Ψυχολόγων του Συμβουλίου Εγγραφής Ψυχολόγοων Κύπρου. Έχει συμμετάσχει ως μέλος της Συντονιστικής Επιτροπής του Συμβουλίου της Ευρώπης για την εκστρατεία «1 στα 5» ενάντια στην σεξουαλική κακοποίηση ανηλίκων στην Κύπρο (2013 – 2016), ως μέλος στην Επιστημονική Επιτροπή του ΚΕΝΘΕΑ (2011 – 2016), και ως Πρόεδρος ή μέλος σε οργανωτικές και επιστημονικές επιτροπές διεθνών συνεδρίων στην Κύπρο και το εξωτερικό. Παράλληλα, ανέλαβε ως ειδικός σύμβουλος την επιστημονική καθοδήγηση των ακόλουθων εγχειριδίων: Υπουργείο Παιδείας και Πολιτισμού (2017) «Εγχειρίδιο Εκπαιδευτικού για Αναγνώριση και Διαχείριση Περιστατικών Σεξουαλικής Κακοποίησης Παιδιών» και “Hope For Children” UNCRC Policy Center (2017) «JudEx+: Towards a child-friendly justice in cases of sexual violence against children.» Από το 2017 έχει αναλάβει την κλινική εποπτεία του «Σπιτιού του Παιδιού» που λειτουργεί από το οργανισμό”Hope For Children” UNCRC Policy Center για θέματα διαχείρισης περιστατικών σεξουαλικής κακοποίησης ανηλίκων στην Κύπρο. Σε διεθνές επίπεδο, είναι εκλελεγμένο μέλος στο Εκτελεστικό Συμβούλιο της Ευρωπαϊκής Ομοσπονδίας Συνδέσμων Ψυχολόγων (EFPA, 2015 – 2019), ενώ παράλληλα συνεργάζεται με το Συμβούλιο της Ευρώπης σε θέματα που αφορούν στα δικαιώματα παιδιών, εφήβων και νέων ατόμων.

Τίτλος: Αποτελεσματική διαχείριση διαπροσωπικών δυσκολιών με ασθενείς

Abstract:

Η αντιμετώπιση των «δύσκολων» ασθενών μπορεί να αποτελέσει σημαντική επιβάρυνση για τη ζωή του επαγγελματία υγείας. Στις δυσκολίες διαχείρισης συντείνουν διάφοροι παράγοντες, τόσο ατομικοί για ασθενή και επαγγελματία υγείας, όσο και περιβαλλοντικοί. Έρευνες μας έχουν βοηθήσει να κατανοήσουμε πως αυτοί οι παράγοντες συμβάλουν στην εμφάνιση των διαπροσωπικών δυσκολιών, αλλά και στον αποτελεσματικό τρόπο διαχείρισης τους. Η συνειδητοποίηση του τι «φέρνουμε» στην αλληλεπίδραση ως επαγγελματίες υγείας ατομικά μετρά όσο και η γνώση αποτελεσματικών πρακτικών προς την κατεύθυνση της κλινικής πράξης και υποστήριξης των ατόμων που συναντούμε. Το διαδραστικό εργαστήρι θα παρέχει την ευκαιρία στους συμμετέχοντες να ενημερωθούν, αλλά κυρίως στο να συζητήσουν και να ανακαλύψουν νέες δεξιότητες στον τομέα αυτό.

Panayiota Andreou is Assistant Professor of Communication Skills at the University of Nicosia Medical School.

Dr Andreou holds a BSc in Psychology (Honours) from Royal Holloway University, University of London (UK), an MSc in Health Psychology from the University of Bath (UK) and a PhD in Psychology from the University of Southampton (UK).

Her research interests cover areas of rationing or missed care in clinical settings, dementia care and caregiver burden, older age and health behaviour change, and cognitive and behavioural factors underlying primary care consultation visits.

Alexia Papageorgiou is Professor of Clinical Communication and Chair of the Centre of Medical Education at the University of Nicosia Medical School.

Prof Papageorgiou holds a BA in Psychology from the American College in Greece, an MSc in Health Psychology from City University London and a PhD in Psychiatry from UCL London University.

Her research covers the areas of clinical communication, medical education, health psychology and advance statements of people who can no longer make decisions in medicine and psychiatry.

Abstract:

Οι  επαγγελματίες υγείας μέσα απο την επαφή τους με ασθενείς ή/και τις οικογένειες ασθενών χρησιμοποιούν διάφορες τεχνικές επικοινωνίας. Ποιές τεχνικές θεωρούνται αποτελεσματικές και υποστηρίζονται απο την διεθνή βιβλιογραφία; Ποιοι είναι τρόποι που μπορούν να μας βοηθήσουν να λάβουμε και να δώσουμε πληροφορίες για να παρέχουμε την βοήθεια και στήριξη που χρειάζεται ο ασθενής; Μέσα απο αυτό το διαδραστικό εργαστήριο οι επαγγελματίες υγείας θα έχουν την ευκαιρία να συζητήσουν και να δοκιμάσουν διάφορες τεχνικές επικοινωνίας που έχουν στόχο την παροχή βέλτιστης ανθρωποκεντρική φροντίδας.
